Calathea ornata is renowned for its elegant foliage, featuring deep green, almost black leaves finely traced with delicate pale pink pinstripes. Each leaf is uniquely patterned, with the vivid striping becoming more pronounced as the foliage matures, while the rich purple undersides add contrast when the leaves move. Like other members of the prayer plant family, Calathea ornata displays new foliage emerging tightly rolled before unfurling to reveal its intricate markings.
 
  • Habitat: Prefers to be kept in warmer temperatures. Avoid sudden temperature drops, and keep away from draughts.
  • Light: Bright, indirect light. Shield from direct sun.
  • Water: Water little and often with filtered, room-temperature water. 
  • Fertiliser: Will benefit from the application of a balanced plant fertiliser during peak growth periods.
  • Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix to avoid root rot.
